Route Description

RUSA Route #3106 "2023 Spring 200K"

Come join us to kick off the brevet season with the Seattle Randonneurs Spring 200K brevet (ACP). It will be a rolling course heading north from Kirland to Skagit County and then back, with a finish at Kirkland’s Chainline Brewery. For those of you with aspirations of riding Paris-Brest-Paris, this can serve as one of your qualfiying rides.

To start, we will ride north, skirting Lake Washington, and then continue up to Snohomish, where we will join the Centenntial Trail until it ends shortly before Lake McMurray. Our route continues north until just before Big Lake, where we turn back south onto Lake Cavanaugh Road. This quiet road offers some beautiful views to the east as we head towards Arlington. A ride along Burn Road will take us back to Lake Stevens From her, there’s only a few more bumps as we head back to Kirkland and the Chainline Brewery, where you can share stories about your ride with new and old riding friends.

This is an early season ride. You must have front and rear lights securely mounted to your bicycle, and must bring a reflective vest, even if you believe you will finish in daylight. The weather could be wet, so we encourage you to have fenders on your bicycle to avoid the wrath of your riding companions.

Parking

There are several parking options highlighted in the image below:

• The Peter Kirk Municipal Parking Garage (yellow arrow). Note: The Peter Kirk Municipal Parking Garage website seems to say there is a 4 hour time limit. Confirm before parking.
• The Kirkland Way Park & Ride (purple arrow).
• On-street parking north of the start and near the post office (green ovals).

General Rules

• All riders are required to have read and signed a waiver (part of the online event registration) before beginning the ride.
• All riders must comply with local traffic laws as well as RUSA's Rules for Riders.
• All riders must have front and rear lights, a reflective vest or sash, and reflective ankle bands. See RUSA Article 10 for details. Be prepared to show these to the ride organizer at the start. Lights should be on during any low-light conditions (rain, fog, night, tunnels, etc).
• If you cannot finish a ride and must abandon (DNF), please contact the organizer ASAP using the phone number on the brevet control card.
• Electronic Proof of Passage (EPP) is available on some rides at the organizer's discretion.
  • If you are using EPP, please text or email your Strava or RideWithGPS link to the organizer within 24 hours of finishing.
  • The ride organizer's contact information is available on the SIR event page (you must be logged in to see this information).
  • The ride organizer will reply to confirm that your EPP was received.
  • Failure to send the ride link to the organizer within 24 hours may result in no RUSA credit for the ride.
  • Volunteers may also be at the finish in case you want to instantly EPP validate in person.
  • Photos at controls are optional but highly recommended as an alternative EPP backup in case of a GPS track failure.
• If you use a brevet control card rather than EPP, you must turn in your signed card at the ride finish.
• Regardless of if you use EPP or a brevet control card, you must check-in with the organizer or a volunteer at the start, the finish, at any overnight controls.
