Gather your teams and plan your routes! This year the flèche will end in Olympia allowing for our Oregon friends to also join in the fun. The flèche is a 24 hour ride for teams of three to five bicycles. Tandems count as one bicycle. Each team designs and rides their own route. Traditional flèche routes are point-to-point — loops are also allowed, but out-and-back routes are generally discouraged. Each route must finish at:
La Quinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham Tumwater - Olympia
4600 Capitol Blvd SE
Tumwater, WA 98501
All riders are responsible for making their own hotel accommodations. You can make reservations for La Quinta
directly on their website. There are other hotel options in the immediate vicinity.
Each route must be a minimum of 360K. There is no maximum and some teams may relish the traditional challenge of covering the most distance possible in 24 hours. Each team may start any time between Thursday, May 14 at 12:00 Noon, and Saturday, May 16 at 10:00 AM. This means all teams will have completed their rides by Sunday, May 17 at 10:00 AM.
There will be a banquet for riders and guests on Sunday, May 17 at 10:00 AM very near the finish hotel at:
River's Edge
611 Tumwater Valley Dr SE
Olympia, WA 98501
Many teams may find it convenient to plan their ride to finish sometime on Saturday and stay at the finish hotel the night before the banquet. Amtrak is one option for returning home to the Seattle or Portland areas. The Olympia-Lacey station is a ~12K ride from the banquet location:
Olympia-Lacey Amtrak Train Station
6600 Yelm Hwy SE
Lacey, WA 98513
When planning your route, please familiarize yourself with the
Rules for the Flèches-USA.
In particular, ensure your route has sufficient controls and a clearly marked 22 hour control at least 25km from the finish.
Proof of Passage Requirements
Teams may choose one of the following to be provided to the organizer at the finish:
- A publicly accessible GPS trace showing the start and finish times and following the route. If you use this method you must also provide a time and location stamped photo of the team at the 22 hour control.
- Time and location stamped photos at each control showing the team.
- A completed control card for each rider. If requested, the organizer will create traditional control cards for your team. You will then complete them by getting timed receipts at each control.
Registration Deadline
Team captains must submit the following info to the organizer by 12:00 Noon PDT on Friday, May 1:
- Team Name (very important)
- Team roster with RUSA numbers
- Proposed route on Ride with GPS
No team entries will be accepted after 12:00 Noon on Friday, May 1. Yes, we always say this, but we mean it this time. No exceptions.
The organizer MAY enforce a secret control somewhere on your route.
If, during the ride, your team chooses to abandon, you must contact the organizer.
All team riders (including captains) must register, sign the waiver, and pay the ride fee by Wednesday, May 13 at 12:00 Midnight (Pacific Time).
Sunday Banquet Guests
Non-riders are welcome to join the Sunday banquet which includes a breakfast buffet. Each attendee will be required to pay the ride fee of $25 which covers the banquet cost.
