Alex Pretti
The day of this event (Saturday, January 31) will see many organized memorial rides across the country. Join SIR as we dedicate this ride to the memory of fellow cyclist Alex Pretti. The official memorial ride in Minneapolis starts at 1:00 PM Central (11:00 AM Pacific). Wherever you happen to be along the route at 11:00 AM, pause for a moment, take a photo, and think of Alex.
Route Description
RUSA Route #3676 "Winter Rouleur - Seattle Beaches & Trolls"
NOTE: This is an urban ride highlighting much of Seattle. The pace will be slow — do NOT attempt to set any PRs on this route. If you feel the need for speed then this is not the ride for you, sign up for an appropriate permanent instead. Please honor all trail speed limits, generally 15 MPH (24 KPH) unless otherwise posted. Take extra care when passing other riders, pedestrians (especially children), horses, and dogs. You should pass other trail users with the care and respect you'd like to see from drivers when you're riding on the road.
This new route explores Seattle waterfronts and sights, with ample refreshment opportunities along the way. How many Seattle beaches and trolls are there, anyway?
Starting at Magnuson Park Beach, we head south on the Burke Gilman, then to the Arboretum, taking the too-often skipped Arboretum Drive past the Giant Sequoia and Pacific Connections Gardens. Continuing south along Lake Washington, we pass Madrona, Colman Park, Mt Baker, and Rumsford beaches among others (count ‘em!) to Seward Park, then proceeding west through Othello and via the Duwamish Trail to West Seattle, skirting Alki Beach and continuing south to Lincoln Park Beach and Bruun Idun Troll. Returning north via Erskin Way to Alki Trail, we continue along the newly completed downtown waterfront trail, past the Aquarium, Olympic Sculpture Park, Myrtle Edwards and Centennial Park, then via Interbay to Magnolia Overlook and Discovery Park. Heading east, we pass Fishermen’s Terminal en route to the Freemont Troll, then move west past the Nordic Museum and Frankie Feetsplinter to Golden Gardens Beach. A winding climb up Golden Gardens Drive leads east to the Interurban Trail, taking us north to Echo Lake. A thrilling descent down NE Perkins Way brings us back to the shores of Lake Washington, followed by a leisurely final stretch south to Magnuson Park, where the Magnuson Café & Brewery awaits!

You can find photos and more route details in
Owen Richards's pre-ride report.
Parking
There’s ample parking (and restrooms) at
Magnuson Park Beach Picnic Shelter 2 (see map below), but if you have time before the ride you may prefer to park at the
Magnuson Café and Brewery, to avoid riding the 2.5K back to the start, most likely after dark. (The Brewery also has ample all-day parking, but it doesn’t open until 9:00 AM, so no restrooms available before 9:00 AM, one reason we’re starting at Magnuson Beach)

Food

Bring your own food and beverages. Food & services are noted on the route. Food and drinks are available for purchase at the finish.
