Urgent Update
As of 2024/08/08 the Retreat/Rimrock Fire east of Rimrock Lake has forced the closure of Hwy 12 from White Pass (MP 151) to Oak Creek (MP 183). There is a mandatory evacuation order along the Hwy 12 corridor. This has resulted in major changes to the 8K600K route.

This route has many familiar climbs around Mount Rainier and part of Mt St Helens. Most of the climbing in the first day (four major climbs). The second day has mostly rolling terrain with one big climb. The start and overnight are at
Cowlitz River Lodge in Packwood, finishing at Blue Spruce Saloon And Diner.
Day 1 has approximately 4,710 meters of climbing in 296K, including Cayuse Pass, Sunrise, and Chinook Pass (twice). Controls include Sunrise Day Lodge, Greenwater, Whistlin' Jack's Outpost, and
Cowlitz River Lodge.
Day 2 has approximately 3,700 meters of climbing in 307K with mostly rolling terrain on familiar roads up Skate Creek Road to Ashford, Eatonville, Brooks Road, and Morton. The biggest climb is up FS26 (Norway Pass) and up FS99 to Bear Meadows. Controls include Brooks Road, Morton, Randle, Bear Meadows Interpretive Site, and Blue Spruce Saloon And Diner.

All riders need a pass to enter Mount Rainier National Park. You can pay the fee at the park entrance or save yourself a little time and hassle by pre-purchasing a pass online at

Registration includes signing a responsibility waiver using the same SmartWaiver system used for RUSA Permanents. YOU MUST SUBMIT A COMPLETED WAIVER IN ORDER TO START THE RIDE. No waiver, no ride, no exceptions.

General Rules
All riders must:
- Read and sign a waiver (part of the online event registration) before beginning the ride.
- Comply with local traffic laws as well as RUSA's Rules for Riders.
- Have front and rear lights, a reflective vest or sash, and reflective ankle bands. See RUSA Article 10 for details. Be prepared to show these to the ride organizer at the start. Lights should be on during any low-light conditions (rain, fog, night, tunnels, etc).
- Contact the organizer ASAP if they cannot finsih (DNF). The organizer's contact info may be found on the brevet control card.
- Turn in their signed brevet control card at the ride finish.
- Check-in with the organizer or a volunteer at the start, the finish, at any overnight controls.
