Pre-Ride Notes from Matt Close
Welcome to our first ACP event of 2022! The route is a Spring ride favorite. We will start at the Northshore Athletic Fields in Woodinville. The construction in the parking lot appears to be done. Day of the ride it is rumored there might even be donuts at the start.
This is a great route with a nice mix of bike trails, rural roads, and numerous options for food stops along the way. There are opportunities to stock up in Snohomish (Mile 16), Granite Falls (Mile 39), Sultan (Mile 62), End of Mann control (Mile 67.5) and of course Sandy’s in Carnation (Mile 98). Welcoming back manned controls, we’ll have a crew out at the end of Mann Road. There will be water, coffee, light snacks, a repair stand, pump and Duncan’s smiling face.
A couple words of caution, after the climb up Woodinville-Duvall Road, you’ll turn left onto 156th AVE NE. Be careful along this road as there are steel plates on the road where they are doing some construction. If it is damp on Saturday, these will be slippery, and they have some pretty abrupt edges. Also, at the end of the ride as you make your way from the sports fields over to Sumerian Brewing, there are construction plates and new curbing that require your attention. With the predicted rain this week, we’ll be keeping an eye on a few of the roads that are prone to flooding. Check back the night before the ride for the latest route.
Finish
The finish will be 1.1 miles (1.8 km) away from the start.

Parking
Parking is available at the finish and start (Northshore Athletic Fields). For those choosing to park at the finish, please park away from the spaces near the front door of Sumerian Brewing Company and businesses that are more convenient for walking customers. As a general recommendation, avoid storing things of value in your car, certainly not visible.
Electronic Proof of Passage
Thanks to hard work by Bill Gobie and other volunteers SIR is dipping its collective toes into the world of Electronic Proof of Passage (EPP) for Brevets. EPP allows us to use GPS tracks recorded on your personal device (rather than traditional paper control cards) for ride verification. To use EPP:
- Record your ride on a GPS-equipped bike computer, smart phone, smart watch, etc.
- Upload your recorded GPS track to Ride With GPS. Note: Only Ride With GPS is currently supported for EPP.
- Complete the Electronic Proof of Passage form, including your personal info, ride completion time, and RWGPS link.
- Press the Submit button.
If you cannot (or choose not) to participate in EPP, no problem. Paper control cards with traditional control validation (info controls, photo controls, etc) are always acceptable.
