Brevet Week 600 / 1000K (ACP) 5/6/2017

E-mail

The 1000k and 600k will start at the same time and follow similar routes as the 2011 edition. Both routes will circle the entire Olympic Peninsula (clockwise), taking back roads through Elma, Montesano, Cosmopolis and Aberdeen

Hey all you K-Hounds, are you interested in doing an entire series in a week? How about a 1000K followed up with a 400K and 200K? Well... the Olympia Brevet Week is your ticket! This year's series offers a number of fantastic, previously-run Brevets in the Olympia area. The 600k follows the first part of Olympia St Helens 1000K and the 400K follows the last part of the 1000k. The 200k and 300k are also previously-run Brevets by Paul Johnson in 2011. All Brevets start and finish in Tumwater, however the overnight for the 600k and 1000k is in Port Angeles so be ready to be self-sufficient!

Note: all of the brevets are self-supported. We will send you off with your control card, the rest is up to you!

Ride Summary:

Brevet Week 600K / 1000K

PRELIMINARY ROUTE—SUBJECT TO CHANGE POSSIBLY DUE TO ROAD CONDITIONS

The 1000k and 600k will start at the same time and follow similar routes as the 2011 edition. Both routes will circle the entire Olympic Peninsula (clockwise), taking back roads through Elma, Montesano, Cosmopolis and Aberdeen; then up the Wishkah River that eventually hooks onto Hwy 101 and north along the magnificent Olympic National Park coastal beaches and through Forks. The route will also take you to scenic destinations along the Strait of Juan de Fuca (along Hwy 112) at Sekiu and Joyce. After crossing the Elwha River, the route will take the Olympic Discovery Trail into Port Angles.

Port Angeles is approximately 400k into the first day and will overnight at:

Super 8
2104 E First St, Port Angeles.

Hotel reservations at: https://www.wyndhamhotels.com/super-8/port-angeles-washington/super-8-port-angeles/overview?CID=LC:SE:20160927:Rio:Local

The route will then continue to the Dungeness Spit overlook and Sequim Bay marina. Then take Hwy 101 back to Tumwater along the Hood Canal. The 600k climbs approximately 11,000 feet and entire 1000k climbs approximately 19,000 ft. For those that rode this in 2011, this route is not as hilly since it avoids the Joyce-Piedmont Rd and Little River Road climbs. The final section of the 1000k is the 400k brevet described here.

The 1000k riders will also have the option of staying in Tumwater after completing the fist 600k, but it is advised to overnight in Kelso at:

Econo Lodge in Kelso:
505 N. Pacific Avenue, Kelso, WA, 98626
